The Best Day Of My Life

I cherish every day that I live now. In these days, the best day in my life is November 3rd,
2012. The day is when I got a thing I had wanted. I will never forget that day.
I was belonged to a kado club when I entered this university. Kado is flower arrangement
club. We regularly used to practice arranging flowers. Most of freshmen are beginners, but
our veteran teacher and seniors kindly teach them, so they improve gradually. In June every
year, we hold the event that shows our flower arrangements in this school, and sometimes
we participate in lectures.
The biggest event of the kado club is Takuma festival. We prepare for the days from
summer vacation. We fight with other clubs to get the highest award for the exhibition sector.
When I was a freshman, we got the second highest award. When I was a sophomore, we
got the third highest award. I remember we felt regret.
After our kind and excellent seniors retired, I became the leader of this club. We invited
people to our club and taught them. I was glad that our members enjoyed arranging flower
and got along with each other.
I had some mottos as a leader. My final goal was to get the highest award with these
members. Fortunately, the members who started with me also thought so.
However, we heard a shocking news from our treasury. The aid from the school for that
year was cut by 100,000 yen from the amount of the last year. We were troubled by that,
because the cost of flowers are so high. We considered, and decided to bargain with the
president of the flower shop.
Our club has been helped by him for decades. We went to his shop and told him our
situation. He approved without hesitation. He said that our club had used to get highest
award until a few years, but those years, our seniors hadn't even though they tried, so he
wanted us to get the top prize. He had same feeling as us. We were relieved, and struck by
his kindness. I decided to get the award for him too.
We started to prepare. First of all, we designed the inside of the room we would use at for the takuma festival days. It was so hard, and we repeatedly discussed about it and changed
our plans. Next, we went to buy materials for making objects. We made them on holidays
and after school. We continued to do these tasks every day until the takuma festival day.
Early morning in the week before the day, we went to the flower market with the president,
and chose flowers. He gave us advice about which flowers to choose. The other clubs also
made objects. When I saw them, I felt that we would lose, because they made such an
impact. We had a handicap, because there were only girls in my clubs. We couldn’t make
things too heavy, because the time for carrying things to the room and setting them up was
limited. I thought we would not get third highest award let alone the highest award if we went
on.
The early morning on the day before takuma festival, we gathered and carried all of
objects to the room. The night before, we went to the flower shop and arranged flowers with
all of the members. Early that morning, we carried all the flowers to the room.
Takuma festival started, a lot of people visited our room. The president and our teacher
also visited. They told us it was beautiful and interesting. We were glad to hear that. We
continued to work on the room until the judges came. I frustrated by African daisies,
because they wither quickly. When the judges came, we explained the points of our
exhibition. I mainly talked about the language of the flowers, because I thought it was most
favorable point.
At last, November 3, the award ceremony started. Before that, we relaxed to forget
stresses of these days. When the announcement of awards for the exhibition sector started,
all of us joined hands with each other. We were very scared. I wished we would get only
third highest award. When the third highest award was announced, for good or bad, the
name of our club were not called. We got more scared, and some of us already were starting
to cry. Next, the announcement of the second highest award came. “Kado” Our name was
called! We ran to the stage. I went up the stage and received the award. All of us cried, and I
made a speech, but I don’t remember what I said. I was happiest in that we have lived up to
now. I thanked the president, our teacher, our seniors, the judges, all people who cheered

for us, and my special and lovely members of kado.

My Hometown

Do you know Yatushiro city?? It is my hometown. I was born and I have lived there for
19 years.
Yatushiro is not an urban city, but it is not in the countryside. Yatushiro is the second
biggest city in Kumamoto, but few people know that. In August 2005, Yatsushiro shi,
Kagamimachi, Sencho, Touyouson, Sakamotomura, and Izumimura were united, so the
area became bigger.
Yatushiro faces the Yatushiro Sea, and was made by land reclamation during the Edo
Period, so the area of old-Yatushiro was almost plain, and people raise many crops like
igusa, banpeiyu, and salty-tomato. I studied about that when I was an elementary
school student. Igusa is raw material of tatami, and in Yatsushiro, the production was
the highest in Japan, but the production has been reduced in recent years. Banpeiyu is
a kind of citrus, and it is the biggest in the world, it is also recognized in the Guinness
book of world records, and its flavor is like a grapefruit, and it is so delicious.
Salty-tomatoes are raised near the Yatsushiro sea, which was under the sea before land
reclamation, so the tomato became salty, but the flavor is not salty but sweet, so I used
to eat them as a snack when I was a child. I want to recommend these specialties.
This city is a famous industrial area as well as being famous for agriculture. There are
industries such as a paper mill and a pulp mill and a sake brewery. When I was in
elementary school, I went on a field trip to the paper mill next to the elementary school.
I still remember that I was surprised at the size of the plant.
The big event of this city is the Yatushiro national fireworks Games, and firework
makers from all around Japan come to Yatushiro, and they compete to show their
technology. Over ten thousand high level fireworks are launched, and about thirty
thousand people come to watch them, so the roads become jammed with traffic. But I
can watch the fireworks from my house, I watch with my family and relatives while we
do barbeque on our terrace every year. That is so great!
In the fall, Yatushiro Myoukensai held, it is one of the three major historical festivals in
Kyushu. We gather at my grandparents’ house, the mothers make a feast with sekihan,
nimame, andkonoshiro-susi. At Myouken Shine, horses, games and shishimai run. We
can enjoy it.
In March 2004, Shin Yatsushiro Station was built along with the Kyushu Shinkansen
opening. In March 2011, the whole Kyushu Shinkansen line was opened. This was a big
event for this country city. I often use this Shinkansen when I return home. Please come
to Yatushiro some day!!

My treasure

I'm not able to cherish objects. I often lose or break the things I have, so my
treasure is not objects. I think, I think my treasures are my friends.
I don't remember who was my first friend. I joined a small nursery in my local
when I was four years. It does not mean I did not get along with the children of there,
but I often played with my younger sisters or cousins. I think they were like my friends.
When I was a junior high and elementary school student, I was shy, but classmates
greet and say hello to me however shy I was. It was nice for me.
At the high school, I was always with the same people. I went to high school, and the
students were almost all serious, but they were also funny, I got along with them. I
almost always get along with cheerful people now. But, my close friend is a quiet girl in
my high school days. I could calm down when I was with her. We live away from each
other now, but when we return to our hometown, we meet and talk about what has
happened.
Now, I am a university student. I made many friends in my school days. I have
belonged to two clubs since I entered this university. I made friends not only in my
club but also with other clubs members. I felt atmosphere that we had to get along
with everyone. In fact, nobody made an unpleasant face, so I can greet everyone
regardless of their club or school grade. And, I work like talking guests, additionally I
meet other university students in our orchestra. I made friends steadily. I was not able
to imagine this before I entered this university. All of the people I met changed me.
I learn something from my friends, and they do things for me. I thank them. I think
people can't live alone, me too. Then, when I am out in society, I also go live in mind it.
I want people to understand that people are not able to live alone. People can be

humane because they live with someone. My friends are my best treasure.

Advice To Kouhai

Hello, my name is Mai Himeno .I will advise you from now on. I'm glad you are reading
this text.
I'm a fifth-year student Eibeigakka. I am taking this class the fourth time.
Two years ago as well as last year, I've promised myself that I would acquire the units of
this class. I was feeling the same at the beginning of the fall semester. But, I was not
able to do it.
There are many things that caused this. I thought it was mainly not being balanced
with my club activities, part-time job, classes, and homework. I was spending too much
time in my club activities and part-time job.
I belonged to two clubs, I've put a lot of effort into the activities of both of them. I was
working too much enjoying both. Similarly, I have a part-time job on an almost daily
basis. Its purpose is to earn living expenses and entertainment expenses. At that time, I
did not think that this as a bad thing.
However, my idea has changed now that I have retired from the club. I don't think that
it is bad to spend time on things other than the study, but it is something that applies to
people who are taking the credit properly. Our core business is to be a student. I think
that if I were a company, it's like you're abandoning work. I could not use the time well.
I think most of you are sophomore. I am ashamed to be here.
What can I do if I was good then? The answer is easy, right?
I was right even if I came to this class anyway. This is something that is also true in the
other class of our department. If you want to get this credit, come to this class and do
homework within the specified deadline.
